Adult Drug Court

A drug court is a specially designed court calendar or docket, the purposes of which are to achieve a reduction in recidivism and substance abuse and to increase the participants’ likelihood of successful rehabilitation through early, continuous, and intense judicial oversight, treatment, supervision, mandatory periodic drug testing, and use of appropriate sanctions, incentives, and other community-based rehabilitation services.

Juvenile Drug Court

A juvenile drug court is a docket within juvenile court where selected delinquency cases, and in some instances status offenders, are referred for judicial intervention designed to improve the juveniles’ functioning and strengthen their ability to lead crime- and drug-free lives. The designated judge both leads and works as a member of a team comprised of representatives from treatment, juvenile justice, social services, school programs, law enforcement, prosecution, and the defense to determine how best to address the substance abuse problems of the youth and his or her family, promoting accountability of both juvenile offenders and those who provide services to them.
